The importance of answering WHY in marketing and sales

When you are selling something through a sales funnel, a landing page or e-commerce store, THE most important thing to keep in mind at all times is answering this question, WHY?

  • Why are you selling what you are selling?
  • Why should your care?
  • Why is your product worthwhile?

When you answer the WHY question, you can not give reasons like ‘to make money’ or ‘because it sells well’.

You need to strongly believe in your product or service.

Know why you are selling it and understand why your audience will be interested.

What makes a brand stand out? A brand is not just a logo and a company name. A brand is the collection of ideals and brand promises that sets you apart from the competition. It is your mission statement. It is WHY your company is doing what it is doing.

If you focus on creating healthy foods, your mission statement might be to make the world healthier.

If you focus on disposable boxes, you might want to make the world a greener place.

If you focus on building and construction, you might decide your mission is to create a home.

Whatever the case, deeply understanding the your reason why you are doing it, will drive all other decisions in your business.

It will guide on a path when you need to decide on which products are worth developing, the partners to work with and HOW to market your business to others.

This will allow you to build a fan base and a real following.

How to grow a fan base? You can not sell to people as soon as they land on your page. It is like asking someone to marry you when you just met for the first time.

First, you need to build trust.

Build authority.

Ensure they feel as though you know and understand their business, their world, their struggles, their problems. This  enables you to create a fan base. People who will be loyal to your brand.

If your company is about is selling something to whoever wants to give you money, then you’re going to have people get behind you or to show a deep interest in what you offer.

Work on having a vision and a passion. Make sure this comes across in everything you do.

Your audience will want to subscribe to your mailing list, buy your latest product, read your newsletter and follow you to the ends of the world.

With that kind of loyalty, your business will succeed. Start with your WHY!
